Best Campus Events; What has been your favorite?

On campus, we have lots of annual occasions to look forward to {Fall Fest, Spring Fair, MSE Symposium, etc.}. We also have Orientation-related contests {like Dorm Wars}, random fundraisers, sporting events, festivals, fairs, and more.

What has been your favorite campus event in your years at Hopkins?
What exactly was at this event? Who sponsored it? Why was this one better than the rest?

Wow, such a hard question. There are so many cool things. I would have to say SPring Fair is just an absolute blast. But I am looking forward to Fall Fest this year, not only for the free BBQ but also for the concert, Boys Like Girls and Cute is What We Aim For. Should be sweet. Not to mention the random smaller events throughout the year where you can pick up free things.

Culture Show! It's an annual showcase of cultural performances (e.g., dance numbers or song performances) held every November. I've been so heavily involved in it as a performer over the past few years and I've always enjoyed watching the other numbers in it when I'm not onstage. :)

I'm a big fan of Spring Fair because it's SO much fun, but MSE Symposium is really amazing as well. They bring incredible speakers to campus to talk to us. This year, Will Ferrell is coming! The topic of the symposium this fall is "A More Perfect Union." Check out the MSE Symposium website for more information or to just satisfy your curiosity!

I just want to put my two cents in for Fall Fest. I just got back from the FREE food opening dinner. It's always nice to see Hopkins doing a good job with an event. There's also hay bales all over campus. Who can say no to hay bales?

MSE and Spring Fair for sure. Everyone already summed up why both are so great.

Spring Fair. Although, being a Fall person I definitely appreciate Fall Fest. Unfortuantely I was too lazy to venture out in the rain this year to get the free food. Still, both events are so much fun!

Okay not an official event, BUT,
1. The first day it turns into fall and is cold and sunny and you can see that some of the leaves are starting to change. Everyone is happy that it isn't so hot and sticky anymore and is excited about it being cooler out.

2. The first snow day... snowball fights, sledding on the beach/behind bloomberg and mittens. Plus the kids from Florida and S. Cal are so funny.

3. Annnd when it turns into Spring. Fall is beautiful and snow is fun; but unfortunately a lot of the winter is cold, gray, rainy and just sort of dreary. When spring finally hits, everyone seems to get a little bit happier. The beach fills with students doing their reading, relaxing, playing frisbee/football/soccer, and enjoying the sunshine.

Okay, so don't get me wrong, Hopkins events are fun too. But I think these are the parts of the year that I look forward to the most.

I wish I were as creative as Laura to think of atypical events. I would have to say Spring Fair too. It's just such a relief from classwork to walk on campus and see food vendors and rides. Plus, at least last year, it really made me realize that warm weather was on its way!

The Friday Night Movie series is pretty good. The HOP (Hopkins Organization for Programming) shows a movie every Friday night on the Upper Quad. So far, they've shown Ironman, Kung-Fu panda, and tonight its WALL-E! I'm pretty excited to see WALL-E because I've never seen it before. :D

It's not exactly on campus but I'm a huge fan of the M&T game (I think it's like the Big 4 Classic...wow I wish I knew! But basically every year Hopkins lacrosse plays at the Raven's M&T Stadium and it's a ridiculous amount of fun.) Basically everyone is there and it's always freezing and you get to cheer on your team in a legit stadium, not just Homewood field (not that there's anything wrong with our stadium, how cool is it that it's jam packed at EVERY game?).

I had to post to echo Rohit's sentiments about the Culture Show! A few of my friends from my dorm and our very own SAAB member, JHU_Kate were performers. It was great to see the incredible variety and talent of JHU's many multicultural student groups!

Lighting of the Quad was yesterday. While slightly anticlimactic, it really does get you in the Holiday spirit. I saw floods of people leave the library yesterday to go see them flip the switch!
